How To Prevent Cracked Smartphone Screens

Avoid The Hassle Of A Broken Phone Screen

Nowadays, smartphone screens are becoming increasingly big, making your phone more prone to damage or needing a screen repair sooner rather than later. Cracked smartphone screens are a pain to deal with, and while your screen is being repaired, it’s inconvenient not to have your phone on hand.

In this article, we’ll examine common causes of screen damage and share how to prevent cracked smartphone screens:

Common Causes Of Screen Damage

Drops & Impacts

Depending on the surface and height at which the phone is dropped, the screen can have a slight crack or scratch. But in fatal cases, the phone screen may shatter.

Pressure Cracks

A phone can develop a pressure crack, an internal crack generally caused by pressure. For example, if you keep your phone in a purse and another object consistently bangs it while carrying it, the phone may develop a pressure crack.

Debris/Liquid Exposure

If you don’t clean your phone screen regularly, debris and dust can accumulate and create dead pixels or scratches. Liquid exposure is also an issue because liquid can seep into a phone’s internal components, leading to electrical distortions.

Using A Protective Case

Importance Of Shock Absorption

Hard cases are generally much more rigid and protect your phone against direct impacts, scratches, and lower drops. However, soft cases made of rubber are more efficient at absorbing shocks from higher drops.

Raised Lip For Screen Protection

A raised lip case protects the phone’s front screen and the camera. The lip keeps the screen far enough away from surfaces you lay it on, such as tables, desks, etc.

Case Material Options

  • Hard plastic is recommended for people who want the most durable option. It is also quite lightweight and affordable.
  • Silicone is an affordable, grippy, and lightweight material. However, the gripping texture may catch on unwanted areas, and the silicone may stretch quickly, leading to needing to replace the case more often.
  • Rubber is great for shock absorption and is quite grippy. However, case designs may be more limited, and this type of case may be more pricey.
  • Leather is a more fashionable choice and easy to clean. However, it is not as durable as other materials on this list and can be expensive.
  • Wood always looks slick but can provide less protection. It’s also tough to find and may splinter easily.

Applying A Screen Protector

Tempered Glass Vs. Plastic Film

Tempered glass screen protectors are hard and have a fixed shape. Plastic screen protectors are nearly invisible and much less expensive, but they’re not as helpful should your phone drop from a height; the plastic film is flimsy.

Installing A Screen Protector

  1. Before installing a screen protector, clean the surface you’ll use and your phone screen.
  1. Next, line up the protector with the phone. Once you have it in place, use two pieces of tape to “hinge” the screen protector to your phone.
  1. Remove the adhesive backing slowly and press the protector onto your phone. Start at the taped edge and work your way to the other edge of the screen. Use a card to smooth out any bubbles.
  1. Lastly, wipe your phone screen and protector with a microfibre cloth.

When To Replace A Screen Protector

In most cases, a screen protector shouldn’t need replacement unless it is damaged from scratches, flaking like a sunburn, cracked in multiple areas, or starting to peel off.
